Let's talk about condoms. Safe sex should always be your highest priority when getting to business between the sheets. Typically condoms are the go-to with many types available. The most popular are latex condoms but there are others available such as lambskin condoms [1]. However, there's a new condom shaking things up in the bedroom; CBD condoms.

Made to be a mixture of pleasure with a touch of sexual wellness, CBD condoms are gaining in popularity but are they just a fad or are there real benefits?

We'll dig into how they work, what perks they bring to the table, the difference between cannabis and CBD condoms, and if they stand toe-to-toe with regular condoms.

Ready for a fresh twist on safe sex? Stick around as we unwrap this together.

What Are CBD Condoms?

CBD condoms are typically made out of latex and are coated with a water-based lubricant that is infused with CBD. Similar to CBD lube, this coating does not get you high but you get to experience the potential therapeutic benefits of CBD such as increased blood flow.

CBD is known for its calming properties—think less stress and more relaxation—which might just be what you want when things are heating up in the bedroom. These innovative sheaths aim to offer these perks without altering mind states because they contain no THC.

What Do CBD Condoms Do?

CBD condoms are designed to blend the barrier benefits of regular condoms with the potential perks of CBD, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, potential pleasure enhancement, and reduction of discomfort or anxiety during sex—something traditional condoms don’t offer.

And because they aim to keep things smooth, they might just be a game-changer for those sensitive moments. The latex can carry and evenly distribute the water-based CBD lubricant coating without compromising its integrity or effectiveness as a contraceptive and STD barrier.

How To Use A CBD Condom

  1. Open the packet carefully, taking care not to rip the latex condom
  2. Slowly roll the condom down over the head of an erect penis
  3. Pinch any air out that may be in the tip of the condom
  4. Continue to unroll to the base of the penis
  5. Take care to wipe off the CBD lube that will be covering the condom
  6. After intercourse, remove the condom and dispose of it in the trash

Comparing CBD Condoms to Regular Condoms

When it comes to the bedroom, safety and pleasure often top the list of priorities. What if you had something that gave you both? Typically regular condoms remove a lot of the pleasure associated with sex but they prevent pregnancy and STIs. CBD condoms provide the same protection without losing pleasure.

CBD condoms boast an infusion of cannabidiol which aims to enhance relaxation and increase blood flow – potentially heightening sensitivity for some users. They can provide a more orgasmic experience without compromising on protection. It's all about that added ingredient: CBD

Regular latex condoms are like old faithful when you need assurance most. Yet, with no extra bells or whistles, they might not deliver any additional thrills in the heat of the moment as CBD variants suggest they do.

Cannabis condoms and CBD condoms reveal a key difference: the THC content. Cannabis-infused options might contain both CBD and THC, the psychoactive component that gives you a 'high'.

On the flip side, we have CBD condoms, solely featuring cannabidiol. And because of this, CBD condoms can potentially enhance comfort and pleasure without any psychoactive effects.

Now, legality plays favorites here; since products with THC face stricter regulations, you'll find that they may not even be available depending on where you live, their purely CBD counterparts usually sit comfortably within legal boundaries.

Market Availability and Consumer Choices

Finding CBD condoms can be a bit of a treasure hunt as the market potential is not that big yet. They're out there, but you might need to do some digging. Your best bet is to look online where specialty retailers showcase various sexual wellness products

When you find them, make sure they tick all the right boxes—quality manufacturing, third-party testing (you want that peace of mind), and clear labeling of ingredients because nobody wants surprises in the heat of the moment.

How to Make Your Own CBD Condoms

Because CBD condoms can be difficult to find we're going to show you how you can make your own. Follow this step-by-step process to enjoy the best condoms you've ever used.

  1. Pick up any of your favorite latex or lambskin condoms from a pharmacy or online. They mustn't contain any additional favoring additives or spermicides such as nonoxynol [2].
  2. Buy a high-quality water-based CBD lube. We recommend our own Oomf CBD Lube due to its enriched prebiotic formula that mains a healthy vaginal microbiome and natural pH levels.
  3. Once you have placed the condom on the penis using the same instructions above, add a pea-sized drop of CBD lube to the head of the penis. Spread the lube over the rest of the condom until it is evenly coated.
  4. Once you've had sex, dispose of the CBD condom as you would a regular condom.

Important: This method allows the CBD to be absorbed by the vaginal tissue directly. With this method, the CBD-infused lube will not benefit the penis. To ensure the penis benefits from the CBD lube, place a small amount of lube on the penis before adding the condom.

Conclusion; CBD Condoms Are a Go

CBD condoms are a fresh twist on traditional protection, promising more than just peace of mind against STIs and pregnancy—they suggest a touch of added pleasure.

Remember, they're not your average Joe condoms. They might boost pleasure and comfort, although research is still catching up.

Different from traditional options? Absolutely. But safety and effectiveness remain king – make sure these new players don't compromise on those fronts.

CBD condoms are out if you can find them. Just be smart about it: know what you're buying and who you're buying from. And if you can't find them, you now have a way of making them yourself.
